Handcrafted 'Long Mynd Curlew' Spalted Beech Clock – 454mm Wide
£170.00
Out of stock
This piece tells a story. Cut from a massive slab of spalted beech, the natural, sweeping curves of the wood grain create the look and feel of the Long Mynd here in Shropshire.
The clock face features a silhouette of a single curlew in flight, originally photographed in the west of the Shropshire Hills. It's a nod to a beautiful bird that used to be a common sight across the Mynd but is sadly now quite rare due to lack of breeding grounds.
To complement the earthy tones of the beech, I have cut and infilled, circular pewter markers for the hours and paired them with slim wooden hands. At a generous 454mm wide and 30mm thick, this is a large, substantial statement piece that brings a real sense of Shropshire’s wild hills into your home.
The Details
Dimensions: 454mm diameter x 30mm thick
The Wood: Spalted beech, carefully chosen because the natural grain lines perfectly mimic the contours of the Shropshire landscape.
The Design: Features a lone curlew over the 'hills', contrasting beautifully with the modern, inlaid hour markers.
The Movement: Fitted with a high-quality, quiet mechanism so there’s no loud ticking to distract you.
The Finish: Fine-sanded to a smooth finish and sealed to bring out the deep, rich character of the spalling.
Good to Know
Because of its size and 30mm thickness, it has a proper, heavy-duty feel to it. It comes ready to hang and runs on a standard battery. A quick wipe with a dry microfiber cloth now and then is all it needs to stay looking perfect.
Note: The plastic display stand isn't included, and that little £1 coin at the bottom is just there to give you an idea of the scale!
