Oak Burr Statement Bowl – 225mm Wide

£125.00

Out of stock

Every now and then on the lathe, you run into a piece of wood that completely dictates its own shape. This bowl is turned from a spectacular chunk of local oak burr, and it is easily one of the most character-packed, beautifully strange pieces I have ever made.

There are no stains, dyes, or burning techniques used here—that rich, deep colouring comes entirely from the wood being slowly air-dried for years and years. The bottom and sides are covered in wild, swirling knots, cluster details, natural splits, and rugged bark inclusions that create a texture you just want to run your hands over. At 225mm wide and 132mm tall, it is an absolute unit of a bowl. It has a massive, heavy presence that makes it a true one-off centrepiece.

The Details

  • Dimensions: 225mm diameter x 132mm height

  • The Wood: Local oak burr, left to air-dry over years to naturally develop its deep, complex tones.

  • The Design: A deep, traditional bowl shape with crisp accent lines on the rim, contrasting smooth, highly-figured interior grain with a rugged, raw exterior base.

  • The Finish: Meticulously sanded across the wild grain patterns and sealed with oils and beeswax to highlight every bit of its natural, erratic beauty.

Good to Know

Because of its size and density, this bowl is incredibly heavy and completely stable wherever you set it down. To keep it looking its best, just give it a wipe with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth—please keep it away from any running water or harsh household cleaning products. Every now and then, a light touch of wood conditioner or beeswax will keep that incredible burr grain looking vivid.

Note: That little £1 coin on the left is there to help give you an idea of just how substantial this bowl is!
